Students gain an insight into the world of charity through work experience at Construction Youth Trust.
Year 10 students from South Bank UTC took part in a week of work experience at Construction Youth Trust’s offices in July. It was a busy week for the young people, who both took on roles within the marketing and communications team. The week was a valuable opportunity for them to gain an insight into working life within the charity sector and experience a marketing and communications career in action.
‘Working with Construction Youth Trust was an enjoyable experience, but it also showed me what it’s like working.’ - Jada
The students took part in a range of real-life tasks during their time at the Trust. From learning how to work a DSLR camera to creating their own social media posts, they showed a great level of commitment and enthusiasm during their week with us! It has been a pleasure to see the young people enjoy different aspects of the week. Jada thoroughly enjoyed taking photographs to document the work of the Trust, while Jed loved attending the site visit and videoing this experience.

‘Construction Youth Trust has revealed the true working experience and behind the scenes of what goes on in the organisation’- Jed
Work experience can also provide organisations with an opportunity to learn. Throughout their time at the Trust, Jada and Jed provided us with a fresh perspective on how we can engage young people using social media and Jada gave an impressive presentation on their ideas to the team on the final day of the placement.
We are delighted that the young people have enjoyed their time at the Trust, and we hope to be able to offer this opportunity to even more young people going forward!
