Harry joined our Building Bridges to Construction Careers coaching programme, kindly funded by the Mercers Company in September 2020. Before joining the programme, Harry knew that he was interested in pursuing a career in construction but was unsure of his next steps. It was fantastic to see Harry embrace the coaching programme, viewing it as an opportunity to explore the wider scope of construction-related careers.
Throughout the coaching programme Harry had the opportunity to meet a range of volunteers and it was through these interactions that he found his interest in skilled trades and discovered the apprenticeship route.
Having graduated the coaching programme in June 2021, Harry joined our Children in Need Level 1 Health & Safety and CSCS card course hosted at Lewisham College (Deptford Campus) in July 2021, essential qualifications for work on site. He really enjoyed the carpentry practical taster but found that bricklaying was his true passion! Following the course, Harry achieved a Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment qualification but found revising for his CSCS card test more challenging.
To support Harry in his test preparation, we welcomed him onto a top up L1 Health and Safety, CSCS card and Employability programme in September 2021, delivered as part of our Careers Cluster funded by the Greater London Authority and European Social Fund. Harry’s CSCS knowledge is much improved and we were absolutely thrilled when he was offered a Bricklaying Apprenticeship. All he needs to do is pass that CSCS test!
