Helping more young Londoners build a career in the construction industry

The Construction Youth Trust is delighted to announce the successful completion of our Formwork Pre-Apprenticeship programme, run in partnership with Bouygues UK and the National Construction College. The two week scheme gave a number of young residents from Tower Hamlets the chance to learn new skills and find out more about life as a specialist formwork operative.

The course offered a mixture of classroom-based fully accredited activities like preparing for and taking the Skills Learning Exercise (required for anyone wishing to begin a construction apprenticeship), alongside exciting practical activities such as driving heavy goods vehicles, building (and destroying) shuttering and pouring concrete.

At the end of the programme the five best participants were offered two year fully paid apprenticeships with Bouygues UK, starting in August. All the individuals that took part in the programme found it exciting and useful, and the Construction Youth Trust hopes that for all involved it can prove a launch-pad to building a career in the construction industry.
