Budding Brunels
We first met Nawaal back in 2015 when she attended a Budding Brunels course, delivered in partnership with Vinci and Taylor Woodrow.
Nawaal already had an interest in engineering, so when she got the chance, she decided to attend our course to further her knowledge of the industry and the jobs within it. The course helped Nawaal understand what career she wanted to follow and she knew that the construction industry was the right one for her.
Work experience
After attending the course, she was offered a work experience opportunity at Taylor Woodrow, where she had the experience of meeting many interesting people with different job roles in the construction industry. Following the experience, Nawaal promised herself that she would do what was necessary to get her dream job as a Civil Engineer.
Struggling to find an apprenticeship
Nawaal sent several apprenticeship applications but unfortunately, without any outcome. However, she kept in contact with the Trust to be informed of any upcoming opportunities, as she didn’t want to give up her dream to get into construction.
Apprenticeship with Tideway
It was just when she started losing her hopes when a great opportunity arose. Staff at Construction Youth Trust called to inform her about an apprenticeship opportunity with Tideway East.
“It was unreal. The Trust informed me about the interview but I was afraid I wouldn’t have any chance in being successful. Naturally, I was quite nervous but I managed to find my confidence. Thankfully the interview went very well and I was offered a 3-year apprenticeship.”
Nawaal is now a Civil Engineering apprentice with Tideway East and having successfully completed her 1-year apprenticeship, Nawaal is beginning a level 6 degree apprenticeship with Tideway and the University of East London.
“Construction Youth Trust not only gave me my first exposure to construction, but also continued to support and guide me into the industry.”
