Construction Youth Trust is a charity whose aim is to inspire and enable young people to overcome barriers and discover a career in the construction and built environment sector.

Our vision is a construction and built environment sector that drives social mobility and delivers social value by inspiring and enabling the diverse young talents of 21st Century Britain to overcome barriers and build better futures.

Our mission

Our mission is to inspire and support young people to achieve their full career potential in the construction and built environment sector. Social mobility is at the heart of our work and we prioritise supporting those young people from low income backgrounds, most likely to miss out on opportunities or facing barriers to employment. We help young people recognise their potential and discover opportunities that have never previously been presented to them.

Where we work

The Trust has identified a number of place-based hubs in which we work. The hubs have been selected based on the extent to which the area is affected by multiple deprivation, such as high levels of unemployment or in-work poverty, low skills, youth unemployment etc, and whether the built environment sector has a long-term demand for skills in the area over a minimum 10 year period.

Current hubs:

  • Hammersmith & Fulham
  • Kensington & Chelsea
  • Westminster
  • Barking & Dagenham
  • Lambeth
  • Southwark
  • Lewisham
  • Tower Hamlets
  • North Kent

Long-term relationships

We believe that by building long-term relationships with local schools, organisations and industry employers in our hubs we are able to have a greater impact on the aspirations and career journeys of the young people we work with.

In schools we're working with students from Year 7 - Year 13, aiming to dismantle the misconstrued and out dated perception that many teachers, parents and young people have of the industry. The breadth of roles available within the construction and built environment is huge and diverse. By engaging young people at an early stage, we have the opportunity to broaden their career horizons and give them a clear line of sight to the wide range of real jobs and rewarding careers the modern industry has to offer.

We're embedded with local organisations, allowing us to access the hardest to reach young people and support their reintegration into their community in a positive manner.

We work alongside our industry partners to identify real pathways into employment for young people. We’re able to connect employers to local upcoming talent, catapulting our young people onto their journey to achieving their full career potential.
