Teeing Up Brighter Futures: Driving Social Mobility in Partnership with Sir Robert McAlpine
We are proud to celebrate our amazing partnership with Sir Robert McAlpine. Their support over the years has been comprehensive. They committed to our work by providing volunteers, transformative work experience and access to apprenticeships for diverse young Londoners, helping to establish their flagship Broadgate project as a real engine for social mobility. And this year, the team at SRM has come to together to fundraise in aid of CYT, with a memorable charity golf day!
Sir Robert McAlpine’s Charity Golf Day in May 2026 was a fantastic example of our partnership in action. Held at the stunning Grade 1 listed Sundridge Golf Club, the event brought together 19 teams of SRM colleagues, partners and subcontractors for a golf day that perfectly blended friendly competition, generous fundraising and camaraderie.
In the morning, players headed out for a shotgun start on the 18-hole course, while others, including members of the CYT team, took part in a brilliantly organised beginners’ golf academy. For many of us, it was our first time picking up a 7 iron, and the relaxed atmosphere made it a fantastic way to get to know SRM staff and their subcontractors on a more personal level.
The day concluded with everyone coming together in the clubhouse for lunch, a raffle and a well-stocked auction prize table. The generosity in the room was evident; raffle tickets were snapped up enthusiastically, and there was no holding back in the auction bidding. It was wonderful to see the industry embracing and supporting our cause. James Ryall introduced our CEO, Carol Lynch, who was honoured to address the guests, putting the day into context and sharing how much this support means for the young people we work with.
We were also delighted to be joined by Victoria, one of the SRM team and a former CYT beneficiary, who was able to share her experience with CYT and the difference it made to her. While on a CYT coaching programme at school, Victoria was inspired by sustainability roles in construction and gained insight into the industry. CYT supported her into a Level 6 Sustainability Apprenticeship at SRM. Three years later, she is thriving in her role. At the end of the event, Victoria spoke with confidence about her journey and the impact CYT had on her. Her story showed how early support can help young people build confidence, explore new careers, and take their next steps with purpose.
An incredible £7500 was raised on the raffle and auction alone – a truly outstanding achievement, and one that will make a lasting difference and help us to support more disadvantaged and underrepresented young people into rewarding career pathways in the industry!
Thank you!
Our partnership with Sir Robert McAlpine stands as a genuine example of what the industry can achieve when fundraising and volunteering support come together.
We’re so grateful to Sir Robert McAlpine for being such a valued partner, and we’re excited to see how much more we can achieve together!
