Students have been Building their Future Skills through our new online programme!

The Building Future Skills programme aims to support young people in building the soft skills that will help them succeed on their career journey through employer-led sessions that introduce them to the huge breadth of career options available in the construction industry.

Over the course of the programme, participants take part in a range of activities that will strengthen their understanding of how a building project comes together, all the while developing their own ideas and design skills that will be put to the test in a final presentation!

Young people will be given the brief of designing a new multipurpose build and pitching it to a panel of industry professionals who will act as the client. Each session focuses on a different aspect of a construction project, from Architecture to Marketing, to give participants a holistic picture of the industry.

Each of the sessions will be supported by an industry volunteer who is an expert in the relevant field, who will be there to answer young peoples’ questions and bring their construction role to life. The programme even includes a virtual tour of a live site, a fantastic opportunity for participants to get an immersive experience of a construction workplace despite challenges and restrictions faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Year 11 students at the University Academy of Engineering South Bank are the first to take part in the new programme and are already well underway with their designs. We can’t wait to hear their final ideas in the New Year!
