On the 14th March we attended a networking event organised by Westminster City Council to discuss ways that could help young people from all backgrounds gain access to local employment opportunities.
Local organisations as well as employers attended the event to explore how we could all work collaboratively and provide opportunities for young people. The discussion was around 3 topics; tackling in work poverty, developing a quality employment service and the growth of apprenticeships in Westminster. The group discussed local apprenticeships and the challenges of how we can do more to ensure young people are aware of the opportunities available to them.
Given the number of large scale developments in Westminster, the construction industry offers local young people the amazing chance to to gain in-work experience and develop role-specific skills whilst achieving a qualification. These exciting apprenticeship opportunities allow them to improve their skills and play an active role in their local community.
At Construction Youth Trust we want to help young people from all backgrounds overcome barriers and ensure they are aware of the opportunities available to them in the industry.
