Staff at Construction Youth Trust were delighted to congratulate nine students upon their completion of our four week course.
Nine students were presented with certificates upon their completion of Construction Youth Trust’s four week Budding Builders Painting and Decorating course. All nine of them achieved a Level 1 OCN London accredited qualification in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, which will enable them to gain CSCS cards and go into employment within the construction industry. Twelve students participated in a practical Painting and Decorating project, learning painting, wallpapering, stencilling and tiling skills.
Students travelled from all over London, having been referred to us from many different routes, including Southwark Works, Barking and Dagenham Council, King’s Cross Construction, Notting Hill Housing, St. Giles Trust and others. Many had participated in our recent Taster Session, and chose to sign up for the full course to further develop their skills.
During the course the students were given a site tour of a Linden Homes housing development by the Project Manager Gary Stent. They were also visited by representatives from Leaner Logistics, Simon Elahi and Mark Prior, who gave a talk about the opportunities available to young talent in the built environment and specifically within their organisation.
Three students are now working with Barking and Dagenham Council’s Construction Team to find jobs and apprenticeships within their borough. Three students have registered with the Routes into Construction programme and will be starting work placements once they have achieved CSCS cards.
Three students are looking into further training with some of our education contacts, K&M McLoughlin Training, Lambeth College and Achieving Excellence.
“It was a good and constructive learning experience with good tutors working around the clock to help us. I gained vast increases of knowledge in Health and Safety as well as some new tricks in painting and decorating. I have had great guidance, due to this I shall be doing some work experience and then going into work.” – Raymond Buchan, a course completer from Barking and Dagenham
“Another successful Budding Builders course delivered by our London Team. I was delighted to hear about the excellent outcomes achieved by our young people including passing their construction related courses, progressing into high quality work placements and also continuing their further education in their chosen trades. Our ambition is that all participants will end up in sustainable employment in their chosen construction.” – Vic Grimes, Operations Director at Construction Youth Trust
Budding Brunels Construction Skills courses are run on a regular basis and welcome young people from all London boroughs who are currently looking to gain a CSCS card, and find employment or training.
