26/02/2021We held our first Live Vacancies Week in partnership with several of our employer partners this February, giving our young people the opportunity to...
Through the programme, we focus on working with young people who are underrepresented in the construction industry. Sessions are employer-led, introducing participants to relatable role models in a broad range of roles to ensure that diverse young talent feels welcomed by the industry, sees it as one that employs people like them, and feels inspired to seek a construction career themselves!
Over the course of the programme, participants take part in a range of employability masterclasses and careers sessions that arm them with the skills they need when applying to jobs, and inspire them about the breadth of careers available in the construction industry. From building soft skills in our Application Masterclass, to networking with professionals in a Careers Networking session, our range of sessions give young people an immersive insight into a construction workplace and the routes available into the industry.
Alongside employer-led group sessions, young people on the programme receive sustained, personalised mentoring support. In 1-1 sessions, each student works through a learning plan designed by their Trust mentor, ensuring we are able to cater the programme to each individual and provide bespoke support.
Also as part of the programme, we have been thrilled to introduce our new monthly Live Vacancies Week which has already proved an amazing resource in finding live tangible opportunities for our young people! In collaboration with our partners in industry, over a week we invite several employers to talk through their live vacancies. Following the sessions, young people who decide to move forward with their applications can do so with the support of their Trust mentor, to give them the best possible chance of success.
By focussing on facilitating meaningful employer engagements to young people on the programme, we aim to inspire them about their future options and help them see the construction industry as a choice that is right for them. Through the Inspiring Futures programme, we want to ensure that our young people transition successfully into the world-of-work, into a role that is best suited to their skills and interests.
