A hole in one for Pinsent Masons

Pinsent Masons recently held its fifth annual golf day in aid of Construction Youth Trust and the day was a great success.

Over 30 industry executives joined Pinsent Masons and the Trust at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey.  The attendees were divided into teams to play a game in the morning, and returned back to the Club to enjoy a well-earned lunch.

Some young people who the Trust have recently worked with joined the golfers and took the chance to explain their involvement with the Trust and their aspirations to work within the construction industry.  One of the young people, Rosie, is a taking part in a Real Project programme in which trainees are building new seating areas on an Islington estate.  The project aims to give young people like Rosie real life experience of a construction project as well as working with them on their CV and helping them find employment. She was joined by Ariel who recently attended a three day Budding Brunels programme with the Trust in London.  During the 3-day course he learnt more about the professions within construction, was taken to a local construction site and visited a local college to learn about the different construction related courses available.

Since the golf day, staff at the Trust are delighted that both beneficiaries have secured paid work within the construction industry.

After lunch, winners of the golf competition were announced, and prizes were handed out.  There was also a raffle and a silent auction where the guests could bid for prizes including two tickets to the Heineken Cup, a dinner for two at Mosimann’s with a night at the Hoxton Hotel, and four debenture seats to the England v Republic of Ireland match.  Almost £11,000 was raised on the day to go towards the Trust’s mission of assisting young people in to work, education or training within the construction industry.

Kevin Joyce, a Partner at Pinsent Masons commented:

‘A very enjoyable and successful day was had by all who attended our fifth, annual Infrastructure Sector Charity Golf Day at Walton Heath Golf Club on 21 September 2012. The day was a success both from a networking as well as a golfing perspective, and we are delighted that another considerable amount was raised to support the valuable work of Construction Youth Trust.

We very much look forward to supporting the trust again next year!’
