We first met Dylon* in January 2021, when he joined our targeted support programme in Westminster. He was seeking employment opportunities in his local area, with a particular interest in apprenticeships. Dylon was interested in receiving additional support in applying for apprenticeships and securing his CSCS certificate.
Dylon’s Construction Youth Trust coach helped him with developing his CV and enrolled him on our Level 1 Health and Safety and CSCS card course in anticipation of an electrical apprenticeship with an employer. He was invited to interview and asked to prepare a presentation about why he wanted this apprenticeship! His coach worked with him to develop an exciting and engaging presentation.
Unfortunately, Dylon arrived late for his interview and missed his allocated time slot. In conversation with his coach, Dylon shared his nerves and apprehension ahead of the interview and they discussed the importance of punctuality. Dylon’s coach was able to speak to the employer, and they offered an alternative interview date.
We were delighted when the employer offered Dylon a 3-month trial as as an electrician’s mate for him to test out the career before hopefully moving into a full apprenticeship position. Spurred on by the opportunity to pursue his chosen career, Dylon successfully passed his CSCS test on his first attempt, allowing him to begin his 3-month trial!
Dylon is enjoying his trial and looking forward to securing his full-time apprenticeship!
