Out of twenty-four starters, twenty one gained their OCN Level 1 qualification in Health and Safety with seventeen also gaining the five year CSCS labourer’s card with more tests booked in the coming weeks. With this card it will be possible for the holder to access entry-level positions in the construction industry and be able to pursue successful careers within the industry.
The groups, led by our experienced tutors Pearl O’Keffee and Wendy Heller were able to learn new practical skills including, painting & decorating, tiling, dry-lining and carpentry. The group also worked well in the classroom throughout their qualification and all went above and beyond in their revision while preparing for their CSCS test.
During their time on the course the students received one-to-one CV support and career advice and were kept up to date with potential progression opportunities. The groups attended extra training days provided by Willmott Dixon which included BIM training, mock interviews, sustainability training and routes into construction. They also attended an apprenticeship fair hosted by Peabody which proved to be very worthwhile for the learners.
Immediately after the course 'Thomas' began a work placement with Macai and has subsequently be offered a full time role as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, with Macai even offering to put him through university! With so many of the group passing their CSCS tests we are confident of finding progression opportunities for all.
