The two organisations came together through Pilotlight, an organisation which matches and manages teams of senior business people with charities.
Initially, the IT Infrastructure team at Lend Lease were tasked with developing a team building exercise based on a scavenger hunt which could also raise money for charity. The team designed the challenge in which teams follow clues and tasks that take them around the City of London and also tested and developed their own team-working skills.
The scavenger hunt was piloted on the Lend Lease annual community day where five teams of employees ran around the City solving clues, as well as taking pictures of the Construction Youth Trust teddy bear mascots alongside London landmarks, construction workers and even a suited and booted city worker. The winning team took away a trophy at the end of the day.
Angela Brennan, Regional Foundation Manager for Lend Lease in EMEA, said
‘It was great for our teams to do something different for Community Day by helping a charity build their capacity and raise more money going forward. Supporting a construction industry charity is particularly important to us and we support the work that Construction Youth Trust does to help disadvantaged young people gain work and training in the industry.’
Mark, one of the participants, said
'I found it really interesting to learn about the work of the Trust and the day was great for team building. The scavenger hunt is an ideal way for a company to show their support for a charity and give something back to their employees.'
Since the success of the first scavenger hunt, we received our first order of the scavenger hunt fundraising package. Another 60 members of staff from Lend Lease recently tested their teamwork skills by doing the scavenger hunt for a team building day.
