Celebrating our partnership with Streets of Growth!

Construction Youth Trust’s ‘Constructing Communities’ project, funded by the GLA’s Young Londoners Fund, allowed the Trust to collaborate with Streets of Growth and support young people to discover new opportunities within construction and the built environment!

Streets of Growth are a multi award winning charity making breakthroughs in reducing harm and transforming the lifestyles of young adults who are socially and economically getting stuck. They achieve this through understanding and addressing the inequalities and significant disadvantage young adults face within East London. Through intensive Outreach and strategic Street Intervention Work, they build relationships that empower, equip, and enable young people aged 15-25 with the necessary skills and networks needed to create meaningful positive change to transform their realities and futures.

With the funding from the GLA’s Young Londoner’s Fund in place to support a programme using construction as a vehicle to upskill young people, our informed and intentioned way of collaborative working with Streets of Growth came into fruition in mid-2021. Sessions began with staff workshops to better understand each other’s values and how as separate entities we support young people so that collaboratively we could better work together in support of our young people.

In the last few months, we have been able to work with Streets of Growth to deliver a practical carpentry workshop that entailed building a bird box, which the young people were able to keep and decorate as they wished! Alongside this, Construction Youth Trust are creating and working towards individualised action plans with each young person that Streets of Growth refers. This is a bespoke plan to help each young person into a construction related education, employment and/or training opportunity.

It’s been a successful partnership because both organisations were intentional about really addressing the needs of the young participants. Our vision, values, and approaches were truly aligned, which enabled us to deliver the programme in partnership and in a non-judgemental way that truly nurtured the development and advancement of those who engaged. - Majeda, Senior Youth Intervention Coach at Streets of Growth

Streets of Growth have been an incredible partner to the Trust due to their knowledge, passion and commitment as well as their ‘hands on approach’ to supporting young people facing hardships.

We are therefore delighted to have funding in place to continue our collaboration with Streets of Growth in 2022 as we strongly believe that through this way of working, both organisations will have greater success in helping our ‘harder to reach’ and harder to engage young people achieve positive and progressive outcomes, that are life changing for them and their communities.
