Celebrating the success of the Budding Brunels project
Budding Brunels is an Open College Network London (OCN) accredited course that gives young people, from a diverse range of backgrounds, an insight into the Built Environment, and provides industry-led careers advice from professionals in the field. Our aim is to inform students of the variety of careers available within the construction industry and help them improve their employability skills.
Recently we delivered a 3-day Budding Brunels workshop in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Paviors and Sir Robert McAlpine based around the new Fen Court development on Fenchurch Street. Twenty-five students got the chance to network with volunteers from Paviors and Sir Robert McAlpine and learn more about the breadth of career opportunities available in the industry by participating in tower building activity and employability skills sessions.
To thank all students for attending, last week we organised a celebration event hosted at Morpeth School. The event marked the end of the course and brought together students, the Trust and Paviors. In addition to hearing from the Master Pavior Miles Ashley about the rewarding careers the sector is offering, students received their certificate of attendance. Our CEO Carol Lynch discussed with students their thoughts about the course and their next steps.
“The Budding Brunels course has opened my eyes to more opportunities and jobs in the construction industry.”
Naomi Ryan, our Schools and FE Coordinator commented: “It has been fantastic to see the success of the course and for that, we are grateful to the Worshipful Company of Paviors and Sir Robert McAlpine for their engagement and support to help us widen students’ horizons and inspire them about the fantastic career opportunities our sector can offer.”
