Budding Brunels alumna Beatriz is on her way to a STEM career!

Beatriz first met Construction Youth Trust in November 2017. Before working with us she knew very little about the construction and built environment sector, thinking of it as a male-dominated sector that mainly encompassed practical, labour intensive work. She had never considered it as a viable career option for someone like her.

Whilst on our Budding Brunels course, a 3 day programme that aims to facilitate meaningful employer encounters for our young people and give them an immersive experience of the industry, Beatriz’s perception of the sector changed. As part of the programme, Beatriz was able to discover more about construction careers from real life professionals. The opportunity to visit the West End Gate site and witness the development of apartments under construction on Edgware Road gave Beatriz a whole new insight into how a construction project works and moves forward over time.

Working with us, Beatriz was introduced to the wide range of available construction careers, and how they related to her favourite subjects – science and geography. We are pleased to say that she was inspired to apply her newfound interest in the construction industry to her further studies, and she is now at University College London studying Earth Sciences with a hope to enter a career in engineering, with a focus on sustainable design!
