The 26th of March was a great night for women in construction as the annual Women In Construction Awards event celebrated the achievements of professional women who continue to inspire within the construction industry through their outstanding work. The event was particularly special for the Trust, as not only we were Charity of the night, but our Executive Director Christine Townley was also awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the category of Outstanding Woman in Construction!
The event was hosted by award winning comedian, actor and writer Katy Brand who warmed up the crowd with her fantastic humour and great personality. After a lovely dinner and an inspiring speech by former RFA Tornado GR4 pilot and motivational speaker Mandy Hickson, the awards ceremony started. There were 15 categories honouring women in many areas of construction, from engineering and architecture to construction trades. The categories were sponsored by Mott MacDonald, Ardmore, Laing O’Rourke, Ardmore, Atkins, BDP, Buildings n Careers UK, Mace, Match Tech, Ruskin Air Management, Taylor Woodrow and Leeds Beckett University. It came as no surprise that many categories included ‘highly commended’ awards as every nominee was a truly worthy winner!
A raffle and silent auction also took place during the event to support the work of the Trust and contribute towards our fundraising efforts. At the end of the evening, a large cheque was presented on stage by Christine Townley. We managed to raise a whopping amount of £3,325 and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us on the night! Congratulations to all the winners - especially to Christine, and we are looking forward to the next Women In Construction Awards in 2016!
