Support for Southwark residents on our online Budding Builders programme!

On the programme, young Southwark residents networked with local industry professionals, developed employability skills and gained industry recognised qualifications.

Our place-based approach sees us form strong local networks with referral partners, employers and schools, enabling us to connect diverse local young talent to employment and training opportunities in their area. Through a collaborative approach with our partners we are able to help young people discover opportunities that they may not have otherwise known about or have been able to access.

Alongside learning and...

38 sessions delivered remotely at Harris Academy in two weeks!

Already this academic year, we have remotely delivered 38 sessions at Harris Academy St John’s Wood, engaging students from Years 7-11 with the support of 29 industry volunteers!

We spent the summer holidays adapting our suite of curriculum based school sessions so that they can be delivered online, remotely and socially distanced face-to-face. We wanted to ensure that no student misses out on the opportunity to experience meaningful employer engagements, expanding their career horizons and challenging industry stereotypes with top organisations from the construction and built...

New faces at Construction Youth Trust!

We have been really excited this month to welcome four new recruits to the Trust’s dynamic team – a Schools Coordinator and three Schools and Programme Interns!

Our new team members have joined us just in time for the new academic year and have already hit the ground running, learning the ropes by shadowing online and remote sessions delivered in schools via Zoom and getting ready to take the reins themselves soon!

Going back to school – socially distanced, remotely and online!

So that we remain able to offer high quality school sessions and programmes, we have been discovering exciting new ways of delivering our Schools Partnership Programme.

Our online sessions are designed to take place in school IT suites. Sessions remain interactive and engaging by using polls, quizzes and the...

Shahnawaz's story

When Shahnawaz joined our Higher Level and Degree Apprenticeship programme in 2019 we were immediately struck by his drive and motivation. He was studying for his Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Construction & the Built Environment and A-Level Maths qualifications and came to us with a career goal in mind, to be a Quantity Surveyor. Shahnawaz immediately threw himself into all the opportunities the Trust had to offer.

We helped secure work experience for Shahnawaz with Sir Robert McAlpine, which consolidated his passion for his chosen career. He took full advantage of the...

Providing online and technical support for those in need

Our laptop loan scheme ensures that none of our young people miss out on vital careers support!

To ensure that as many young people as possible are able to benefit from our online sessions, no matter their circumstance, the Trust secured funding from the London Community Response Fund’s ‘Delivering Differently’ grant for 30 laptops, along with data packages and dongles, which can be loaned to young people in need.

As we moved all of our delivery online, we were acutely aware that not all of our young people, especially those on our targeted support programmes,...

From delivery to fundraising – our wonderful intern Max has been exploring a different side of the Trust!

It has been an exciting and challenging time to be working in fundraising. There has been a great response to COVID-19 with many new funding streams open to benefit youth organisations, and we have been incredibly busy applying for...

Exploring the virtual world of remote interviews with Langley Waterproofing Systems Ltd!

2020 has seen many young people miss out on opportunities for training and work experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have been working to adapt our mode of delivery in response to these challenges, and have developed a range of remote delivery resources, including Mock Interviews, to add to our already established face-to-face sessions. Being able to give sustained remote careers support at this time is vital, particularly for young people facing the biggest barriers to employment.

With many real-world interviews taking place remotely moving forward, adapting our Mock...
