Case Study

  • Anthony Oloyede – President of the LABC

London Borough of Hillingdon Building Control Manager

We were delighted when Anthony approached the Trust and asked us to become the charity partner of LABC.

Anthony began his career in building control as a trainee surveyor at Hertsmere Borough Council, and has now been in local authority building control for the greater part of 23 years, first at Harrow, Islington and now as Building Control Manager in the London Borough of Hillingdon. Passionate about inspiring the next generation of industry and supporting young people to achieve their full career potential, Anthony fully embodies the ethos and mission of Construction Youth Trust.

Anthony volunteered on one of our Budding Builders programmes and we saw first-hand the additional benefits of the right industry professionals working with young people with whom they share a common ground.

As part of a Meet the Industry session, Anthony met our 11 Budding Builders and introduced them to the world of building control. Anthony shared his experience of industry with the young men, taking them through his first role to how he’d arrived at his current position.              During the discussion, it quickly became apparent that one of our participants, Jamie, grew up in the same area as Anthony.

"I’d never met someone like Anthony who worked in the construction industry before. He was dynamic and made me realise that a large variety of people work in the construction industry”

Another of the participants, Tega, found it easy to relate to Anthony. He’d never considered building control as a career, but seeing Anthony’s continued passion and clear enjoyment of his day-to-day work has sparked a fire of interest in Tega.

Tega is now pursuing a career as a building control surveyor and will be attending a work experience placement at his local authority building control in the summer.
