According to latest figures from the Department of Education there are still more than a million young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) in England.
I find this figure very concerning and think it is time that we all did more to give these young people the opportunities they so desperately need.
With almost a fifth of 19-24-year-olds being classified as NEET we need to find a way of reaching them and showing them there are opportunities for training and employment within construction. By raising awareness of the industry we can help them to see construction as a career which they may never have been told about before.
Construction Youth Trust helps young people with disadvantaged backgrounds find employment and training opportunities. Through our Mobile Classroom we can work with NEETs in hard to reach communities. Through the delivery of basic skills training and helping the young people get their CSCS cards we can help lower this worrying amount of unemployment.
We are working with many construction companies to help find apprenticeships and work experience placements for these young people but more can be done and we need more companies to work with us. We need more opportunities to be available for young people to realise construction could hold the chance of a brighter future for them. Together we can help tackle this issue so get in touch with us and find out how you can be a part of the solution.
