Trust trainees help refurbish disused Redhill community space

The Trust is running a 6 week Open College Network (OCN) accredited construction course in Redhill for young locals aged between 16 and 24.

The course is run in partnership with Raven Housing Trust, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, Reigate & Redhill Community Church (RRCC),  Legal & General and Orbit Group.  The RRCC had been looking to refurbish a town centre unit into a community and youth facility and this was a great opportunity to provide training to local young people in a real working environment.

The Trust’s trainers will teach practical and employability training to the young trainees throughout the 6 week project, and have been working alongside RRCC’s contractors to create the new youth area in the new community centre.  The trainees will learn skills in carpentry, tiling, and insulation, as well as employability skills and will take part in sessions to improve their CVs.

By the end of the course, the trainees will be more aware of opportunities in construction and be employment or apprenticeship-ready with more confidence and drive to take the next step along their career path.  This is a great opportunity for the young trainees to feel like they are making a real difference to their community while improving their chances of securing employment at the end of it.

The Trust and Raven Housing Trust have partnered with East Surrey College to allow exceptional first year film students to direct and produce a film about the project.  It will highlight the unique partnership between Charitable, Private and Faith sectors, and the real difference that the Mobile Classroom will make to the young people involved and the local community.
