It is wonderful to be able to offer live work experience opportunities again! Thank you so much to Core Five, Sir Robert McAlpine and Child Graddon Lewis for hosting our young people.
The COVID-19 pandemic and UK lockdown measures have meant that a generation of young people missed out last year on the multitude of benefits work experience can afford. However, we are thrilled to say that we have had our first cohort of young people attend live work experience placements with several of our employer partners in 2021. 7 young people have embarked on week-long placements, throwing themselves into working life and really impressing their host companies!
“It is going very well. We’ve already been on site to see how they work and how all the machines function. Overall it has been a 10/10 so far.” Student
Many young people are unaware of the range of roles there are available in an area like construction, so the opportunity to spend a week in a construction workplace is the best way to discover the incredibly diverse range of opportunities there are available in the industry.
Throughout the week, our young people were taken on live site visits and undertook a dynamic range of professional tasks, gaining a varied insight into different roles! At Core Five, 3 students discovered more about the Commercial, Residential and Sports teams, at Child Graddon we had a student finding out all about Architecture, whilst at Sir Robert McAlpine 3 students covered a broad range of areas and topics, from attending a health & safety briefing to working on their CVs.
For young people considering their next steps after school, work experience is an essential part of their career development. Being able to experience a range of workplaces and immerse themselves into different career roles is invaluable when young people are making decisions about their futures. It’s also a great opportunity to showcase and build on the soft skills that they will be using to stand out to potential employers when applying for opportunities.
This cohort of young people gained so much from their experiences of the world-of-work, and we can’t wait to facilitate more placements in the coming months!
