Delight as former Chairman Rod Bennion receives an OBE

The Trust is delighted hear the news that former Chairman, Rod Bennion, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List.

Rod was Chairman of the Trust for 12 years, only recently handing over the position to Andy Wates of Wates Construction Group in Spring 2014.

Rod sat on the board of Construction Youth Trust for 14 years and his work and dedication helped us to transform into one of the construction industry’s most effective recruiting vehicles, providing career pathways for thousands of disadvantaged young people and raising the profile of the sector.

Christine Townley, Executive Director said, “It was a privilege to work with Rod during his time as Chairman of Construction Youth Trust. He was deeply instrumental in the growth and development of the Trust over the last 12 years. We were able to change countless young lives for the better due to his passion for providing young people with a second chance and it is great that his hard work has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list.”

Rod Bennion said "I am deeply honoured to receive this award. I have worked in the Construction Industry for over 50 years and any success that I have achieved has been through helping to release the talents of those who have worked with me.

It is a philosophy that has worked for us at Construction Youth Trust both with our colleagues and all the thousands of very talented young men and women we have helped along their journey to work.

There is nothing more satisfying than working with young people who have had difficult experiences in their lives and seeing them respond beyond all expectation to guidance and training. The Trust continues to do fantastic work and I thank all for their support over many years."
