One year ago we launched Building the Future: Celebrating women in construction in partnership with the Smith institute and supported by CITB and Wates giving. A call for both a celebration of those individuals, companies and policies which have enabled more women to enter the industry as much as a call for change of those attitudes and barriers which still make it an industry dominated by white men.
The report garnered much attention at the time and one year on we have made some changes ourselves which have seen us improve the quota of young women on our courses and progressing into the industry. There's always more we can do and we can only achieve real change together as an industry and as a society.
The issues affecting women's participation in the work force and specifically in the construction industry are well documented - so rather than revisit them here, let us celebrate the wonderful news this week that our friend Jean Duprez, of KM Decorating, as been awarded an MBE - and our very own ED Christine Townley has been shortlisted for the WIC Awards 'Outstanding Women' of the Year award.
