The benefits for employers

  • Connection with the local community will enhance your reputation and provide valuable engagement that will enhance your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
  • Enhance your reputation with clients, local authorities and the local community
  • Effective links with teaching establishments which can make your recruitment more efficient and less costly.
  • Your staff take pride in, and learn from, training young people.

There are a number of different ways how you, as a construction employer, can become involved and the Construction Youth Trust can help facilitate this.

Site Visits: Your company could host site visits for school/college/university groups introducing them to construction projects and providing a valuable insight to what happens on site. Site visits pdf contact for more information.

Curriculum: Schools in all the localities in which you work are studying construction-related modules. Your company could have a real and valuable input by offering an "on the ground” real perspective of the construction industry by offering a member of staff and their time to contribute to classroom activities. Careers events: It is key that we continue to raise awareness of the industry to many different people - careers advisors, teachers, young people and their parents. Companies can nominate staff to attend career days, employability workshops and school parents evenings to promote the industry and the career paths young people can follow. Work experience: Companies can host work experience students in order to introduce them to the industry, your company and what you do. Each candidate is assessed by the Trust before they are matched to your company Show the student round your site, involve them in a project and enlist their help in the office, project or site tasks - with a little coaching you can have a valuable and eager extra pair of hands.Work experience pdf contact for more information.
