Construction is the UK's largest sector and offers a wealth of opportunity for training and employment in a wide variety of roles. Young people throughout the UK face barriers to accessing these opportunities.

Key to the success of our service is our expertise in linking up effectively with communities and young people, local service providers and educational institutions and the local construction industry. In this sense, CYT has a very good understanding of local communities and the needs of young people, extensive knowledge and good partnership working with training and educational institutions and most importantly links with key construction industry employers. This allows us to provide young people with relevant, accurate and up to date advice, training and support. In this, our industry partners’ direct involvement and input throughout the young peoples’ journey to work is imperative.
CYT has developed an effective regional framework to manage and deliver its programmes effectively. This allows us to reach out to young people in need throughout the country and provide customised support linked to local labour market needs and opportunities.
The Construction Youth Trust (CYT) supports young people whose journey to work can be challenging due to barriers relating to their financial circumstances, lack of awareness of opportunities in the industry, low self-esteem, gender or ethnicity.
We support young people’s journey to work through an integrated service that enables young people to
raise their industry awareness and aspirations
increase their confidence
obtain construction and employability skills
acquire experience in the industry
receive financial support, career advice and guidance and mentoring
access training and employment opportunities.
The Trust achieves its goal by undertaking a number of programmes ranging from individual bursaries to construction skills courses, and from work placement schemes to guidance sessions.
By helping individuals to gain training & employment the Trust's work effectively tackles social exclusion and related disadvantage.
The Trust is uniquely placed to help individuals and communities. We have wide-ranging contacts within the construction industry, including a Trustee body made up of senior figures within the sector, and expertise in working with young people and their communities.
